Plan changes and refund policies

Big Cartel offers three plans: the free Gold plan, and the paid Platinum and Diamond plans. The Platinum and Diamond plans can be paid for on a monthly basis or annually at a 20% discounted rate. You can find the rates and features for all of our plans here.

You have the flexibility to change your plan at any time during your subscription. Upgrading or switching from a monthly to annual billing cycle takes effect immediately. Downgrading or canceling your plan will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

Upgrading or Downgrading

When you upgrade to a higher plan, all of your settings will stay the same and you'll get access to premium features and additional product listings. We'll automatically apply a prorated credit for the unused part of your current subscription, so you only pay the difference.

If you decide to downgrade to a lower plan, you will lose access to those premium features and your product count will decrease.

Heads up! If you downgrade from a paid plan to a free Gold plan, your shop will be placed in maintenance mode if your product count exceeds five products. To bring your shop back online, you'll need to choose the five products you want to keep in your shop.

To upgrade or downgrade your account:

  1. Log in at my.bigcartel.com.

  2. Go to Account.

  3. Scroll to the Plan and Billing section, and click Manage billing.

  4. Under the Current plan section, click Change plan.

  5. Select the plan you want to use, follow the prompted steps, and you're set!

Switching between monthly and annual billing

We offer monthly and annual billing for the Platinum and Diamond plans. Annual billing gives 12 months of access at a 20% discount. More on plan pricing here.

Please note:

  • Switching from annual to monthly billing - changes will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

  • Switching from monthly to annual billing is immediate. Prorated depending on how much time is left on your monthly billing cycle.

To switch between monthly or annual billing:

  1. Log in at my.bigcartel.com.

  2. Go to Account.

  3. Scroll to the Plan and Billing section, and click Manage billing.

  4. Under the Current plan section, click Change plan.

  5. Select the plan you want to use and make sure you are toggled to either annual on monthly billing, follow the prompted steps, and you're set!

Closing your account

You have the option to close your Big Cartel account at any time. When you close your account, it will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

Before closing, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Download any product or brand images you want to keep, like your logo or header images.

  • Remove your custom domain from your admin. (If you need to connect your domain to another site, you’ll do that through your domain hosting provider which would be IONOS if you purchased your domain through Big Cartel.)

  • Your order history will still be available through Stripe and/or PayPal, but you may also want to export that data from your admin.

To close your account:

  1. Log in at my.bigcartel.com.

  2. Go to Account.

  3. Scroll to the Plan and Billing section, and click Manage billing.

  4. Click Close shop at the bottom of the page and follow the steps on screen. 👋

Refund policy

We understand that sometimes things don't work out as expected. If you cancel your annual subscription within 14 days of purchase, we are happy to process a refund for your subscription.

However, please keep in mind that we don't offer refunds for annual subscriptions canceled after 14 days from the initial payment, nor do we offer refunds for monthly subscriptions.
